This is such a cool item- and such a simple idea, I take my hat off to the Dutch designers that came up with it... I wish it was around when my kids were small, I could have used one! The designers also say after the baby outgrows it, it can be transformed into a rocking chair/bench, so that is double "Hurray!", if you ask me...

DIY project: painted jar-turned-vase

Ever since I saw the pictures of painted glass jars and bottles on this blog, I've been dying to try it the idea. There wasn't much explanation in the original post but later I saw a video online (can't find the address now) of the same idea. I did some modifications to both ideas- and this is the easier of my two versions, I'll do another post soon on the other when the jar/bottle labels dry out.

So, what do you need? You need to open your fridge and clear all the jars that have been standing there for months, that's what you need... But don't throw them- here's how you can use them again, and I can promise you, you will enjoy the result.

Ok..."photoshopped" is not the right word for what I'm trying to say, but close enough. You know how sometimes when flipping through the lifestyle magazines you come across a picture of a room so cosy and inviting that you feel like you want to move in that house right away...Well, in this one you can't- cause it's not real. Just saying...maybe the models and stars in the magazines are not the only ones that are touched-up. Lighting is everything, though...

Axel Erlandson's Tree Circus/"Циркови дървета" от Аксел Ерландсон

Well, this is definitely one of the most interesting stories I googled this month. After seeing online this "basket tree"- which I tought was natural,  I got intrigued by the information under the picture which said it was shaped deliberately so with the help of 6 trees.

Salvador Dali and Walt Disney

Apparently, this short film that has (recently?)  been released by Disney is part of an abandoned 1946 project of Salvador Dali and Walt Disney called "Destino". The original 20 seconds (that is all that was ready before it got cancelled back then) have been digitially expanded to this (strange) short film by Disney's artists who used Dali's original storyboards.
Well...take a look.

How come I haven't heard of Paul Villinski till now?? I saw some pics by of his butterflies-made--out-of-beercans art at ideendom.com (a blog by my friend Rossitza), and was really impressed. I love when recycled materials art is visually impressive. This artists choice of colours and composition- not to mention the idea of making the butterflies- is a really, really good. Some time ago I did a post on one rotating mini-kitchen (German-made, believe it or not) and now I found another revolving example, which fits how I would picture Asians would optimise their living space. This revolving unit is custom-made, though. Check out the pictures (via YankoDesign)

Ok, this is OFFICIALLY creepy/Вампирски октопод-медуза

This thing right here is called Vampyroteuthis infernalis, i.e. "vampire squid from Hell" but it's not technically a squid, but rather resembles jellyfish in composition but is still considered to be in the same family as octopus, squids and the like (ok, I am confused...) It live at 3000 ft depth and is the animal with the biggest eyes in the world proportionally to the rest of its body. I think we can all see why. The good news is it reaches max 28 cm in length.

I have a weak spot for ultra-small spaces that are used optimally. That's why this cover of a coming book by one of Apartment Therapy's authors intrigued me. Luckily he has posted a bigger picture of this Brooklyn flat, so we can see the details of the "under-bed kitchen". Enjoy :-)

Ok, I am positively lost for words- not to mention I actually had to read the post at YankoDesign twice before I could say I understand how it works... Aparently you can choose a colour from a colour scheme, and with the help of the colour catridges- much like the one you insert in the jet printers, your white garn is automatically coloured in the desired shade, while you are sewing.

How cute are these?? The artist made them while he was trying to quit smoking- he says everytime he felt the urge to light up a cigarette, he would take a ping-pong ball instead and start drawing :-)
