Browsing though several blogs and online shops, the impression I get is that the word/phenomenon means both Japanese-style take-away food for one person (consisting of rice, meat, vegetables), but also anything connected with fancy lunchboxes and bags for lunchboxes, and food-shaping art (in a lunch box- e.g. animals, people and cartoon characters).
But the Bento-food boxes and bags are really something, I must say. I can just picture busy office people walking around with them out at lunchtime... Check out these examples from CasaBento.
Е, и днес научих нещо ново..."Bento" е японска дума за "храна за вкъщи" за един човек- но явно вече е навлязло в масовата западна култура/стил на живот и като обозначение за нестандартни кутии за храна (и придружаващите ги торбички)- тези екземпляри са особено приятни.
