I had no idea "infrared photography" existed- I don't even know if it refers to types of lenses or photo enhancement after a picture is taken, but the result is pretty cool. More here.

I recently found Sweetopia's blog and have secretly been enjoying looking at her amazing cookies and other stuff (she's an artist, she really is) but also going through her tutorials and deceptively thinking that since she explains everything so well, and makes it sound like it's a piece of cake (*wink, wink*), that I might give it a try, too... Well.. if I was living in outer space, I guess such a design would make perfect sense- i.e. rolling the room like a hamster, to get to a section you want. As for on plantet Earth, right now.. I think I'll pass...
Still- good to know that design students are trying- this one comes from Germany and is still experimental.

Vintage thermos(es)/Ретро-термоси

Looking at these pictures, almost makes me want to start collecting retro thermoses/termos flasks. Almost.
Seriously- some of them look like spray-paint cans, don't they? Then again, some of them are "timeless design" even though they are from the 1930s or something (and would look great in a Scandinavian context....). More on Flickr

Bento

Oh, this is so exciting! I just had another of these "I had no idea!" moments (with the after-taste of "I'm so happy I learned something new today" and "Have I been living under a rock?!? I am so behind with what's "in"!"). Surprise-surpise, it's another Japanese-gone-mainstream thing, called Bento.

Browsing though several blogs and online shops, the impression I get is that the word/phenomenon means both Japanese-style take-away food for one person (consisting of rice, meat, vegetables), but also anything connected with fancy lunchboxes and bags for lunchboxes, and food-shaping art (in a lunch box- e.g. animals, people and cartoon characters).
 But the Bento-food boxes and bags are really something, I must say. I can just picture busy office people walking around with them out at lunchtime... Check out these examples from CasaBento.

Е, и днес научих нещо ново..."Bento" е японска дума за "храна за вкъщи" за един човек- но явно вече е навлязло в масовата западна култура/стил на живот и като обозначение за нестандартни кутии за храна (и придружаващите ги торбички)- тези екземпляри са особено приятни.

I laughed so hard when I saw these at WebUrbanist !! I know the feminist audience might be offended by some of them, but I think they are funny- both as a commentary of how acceptible it was in the past to play with such stereotypes, but also as a commentary to how "bad taste"/politically incorrect it would be if someone tried to use humouristically such messages today ...:-)

Glass floor on the 103rd floor/Стъклен под на 103тия етаж

I don't know about you, but that stepping on such a glass floor would freak me out. The source says it's in the Sears Tower in Chicago.

Dream&Fly

This concept for mini-hotel pods is long overdue, if you ask me. I've often wondered why the hell some of the busiests airports in Europe, with long-distance flight connections don't offer lounge chairs (or offer very few) or some small rooms where people can take a nap during the several hours they have to wait for their next flight. Well, busy travellers (and I guess, mainly business travellers) will soon enjoy the service or renting by the hour these small pods that come with their own bathroom/toilet and WiFi. Maybe they could also offer some budget-friendly (Japanese box-hotel-inspired) accommodation for the rest of us, too??

Lake Huron, named by the French after the local population (*reminds me of "The Last of the Mohicans" LOL) is the second largest of the Great Lakes and is bounded by Michigan on the US side, and Ontario on the Canadian side. Looks like a see, doesn't it?
